Google Café – San Francisco

Google CafeRated: ♣♣♣♣

I had the privilege to visit the Google SF office for lunch thanks to my good friend Ikai, who will probably hate me for announcing this but it’s his birthday today!

I have been patiently waiting to eat at Google ever since he started working there, and it was worth every second. Now the reason why I’m giving the Google Café such a rave review is probably because 1) it’s free, 2) there are large quantities of food and 3) they have homemade ice cream.

The Google cafeteria is the envy of every non-Google employee. The café is just like the food on a cruise ship. They’ve got sushi bars, panini stations, even a dessert bar. The food keeps coming too. You may think they’ve just run out of the warm chocolate chip cookies, but in a blink of an eye, the tray is replaced with a new batch.

The scene:

Each item in the cafeteria is labeled green, yellow or red. The color of the label indicates how nutritious the food is with green being healthy and red being unhealthy. I loaded up on a mix of each for some variety which I regret since I am now suffering from a bad food coma.

The food:

Rice Cakes w/Mushrooms And A Balsamic Vinegar Reduction – I love my red meat, but the vegan food was really good. My favorite item at the cafeteria today was the rice cake. It was crispy, meaty and healthy. I scarffed down 3 of these.

Mac ‘n Cheese with Chili – Oh man, this is all sorts of unhealthy. The mac ‘n cheese was layered on top of spicy chili and topped with crusty Panko breadcrumbs. I ate about half of this and moved onto the next dish.

Veggie/Fruit shots – I’ve never seen anything like this before! They were little shot glasses filled with a serving of fruit and/or vegetables. I tried the apple juice with pear puree shot. It was like a delicious mini fruit juice.

Ham and Gorgonzola Pizza – The pizza was pretty frickin good. The crust was super thin and crispy and there was just the right amount of gorgonzola cheese so that it wasn’t overpowering.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream – They make their own ice cream! The ice cream is all-natural so it doesn’t have all those artificial flavorings that you often find in store-bought ice cream.

The Google Café is definitely an experience. So Ikai… I’m free anytime if you want to invite me over again!
