I had a super girly weekend with my girls at Crown & Crumpet in Ghirardelli Square. C&C is a little tea room that serves afternoon tea with crumpets, scones, mini sandwiches and desserts. It was mucho fun and I’d definitely be down do it again some time soon.

The scene:

I doubt any man would want to be caught dead at this place. Lots of pink, lots of floral print, lots of tea. This is a great place for birthday parties (for all ages), baby/wedding showers and in our case, a girls day out. The staff is super friendly and they didn’t rush us the entire 2 hours we were there.

The food:

Food – We got 2 orders of the “tea for two” which were $42 each, making the total bill about $100 for 4 people. With your choice of tea, the meal came with an assortment of 8 sandwiches, 2 crumpets, 4 scones, and tons of mini desserts. Everything was split evenly so you didn’t have to fight over for the last crumpet with your partner. Since I am a picky eater, I was only able to eat some of the sandwiches; but those I tried – egg salad, chicken curry salad, lox and cream cheese- were all very delicious. The bread was a little on the dry side though. The crumpets were crunchy and buttery, the two types of scones (blueberry and plain) were soft and crumbly, and the truffles were rich and creamy.

Tea – C&C has an impressive variety of teas ranging from green, black or white teas to fruity and herbal teas. We got the Merry Mango (black tea with a splash of ripe mango), Strawberry Fields (green tea matcha with sweet strawberries and creamy vanilla), Peach Crumpet (white tea with peach flavor oils) and the Lychee Oolong (a dark oolong tea with rich lychee flavors). Although all were very delicious, I’d have to say the Strawberry Fields was my favorite. It went really well with the cream and heart-shaped sugar cubes.

Check out my loads of pics of the girly experience.

This Tuesday, February 23rd, Jack in the Box is offering a free grilled cheese sandwich to anyone who buys a large drink. Here’s a note from Jack himself:

Hey,

So I’ve recently been into things that are grilled. Not like rappers’ teeth or anything. My new Grilled Sandwiches. There’s the Grilled Turkey, Bacon & Cheddar with roasted turkey, cheddar cheese and bacon, and the Grilled Deli Trio, with salami, sliced ham, roasted turkey, provolone cheese and pickles. Both served on grilled artisan bread.

I can’t decide which one I like better. I’d imagine that’d be like having to choose which of your fraternal twins you like better. Except in that case, one is usually evil.

But back to the sandwiches.

I’ve decided to give them away for FREE on Tuesday, February 23rd with the purchase of a large drink. One sandwich per person though. So choose wisely.

-Jack

Osha Thai

Osha has been getting a lot of buzz in the SF food world right now. They’re popping up everywhere around the city! Some better than others, but generally pretty good.

The scene:

Osha is a trendy Thai restaurant with 7 locations around the city. Dishes range from $10-$20, but portions are on the smaller side as opposed to other Thai restaurants. I do admit each branch is a little inconsistent with their dishes, but the food is pretty decent.

The food:

My lunch buddy and I shared the Green Papaya Salad and the Stir-fried Green Curry Noodles, which came out to a little over $20. Kind of pricey since we ordered a salad and a noodle dish.

Green Papaya Salad – I ordered this quite a few times at the location in Glen Park and it always comes out incredibly spicy no matter how hot I tell them. I don’t mind this too much because I love the heat. I was expecting the salad at the Embarcadero location to be just as spicy, so I ordered it with medium heat but was disappointed when it came out not spicy at all. The ingredients were fresh and all the other flavors were there. It was just missing the heat.

Stir-fried Green Curry Noodles – This was such an interesting dish. It consisted of spaghetti noodles mixed with a spicy green curry, bamboo shoots, basil, green beans, carrots and chicken. I’m going to try to make this at home since it seems pretty easy to make.

All-in-all, Osha is pretty satisfactory. I keep coming back because they have some winners and it’s close to my work and home, but there are much better Thai restaurants in the city

I’m one block away from the Ferry Building and I didn’t even notice LuLu Petite was gone. Where will I get my freshly fried chips??

Cowgirl Creamery has announced they will in fact expand into the LuLu Petite space. And, get this. They’ll discuss the building plans in Paris while visiting a cheese event. Sometimes, I feel like I am in the wrong business. I need someone to send me to Paris to each cheese.

I LOVE Cowgirl Creamery. I’m obsessed with their variety of stinky cheeses; but, every single time I go to their stand in the Ferry Building, their staff is always so rude! Why don’t you talk to me when I come to the window, pretentious employees at Cowgirl Creamery???
