There is a happy hour every night of the week in San Francisco’s Financial District. I have no idea how people find the energy and time to attend these things after work with their co-workers. K and I had some friends in the area, so we decided to to go Palomino.
The scene:
Palomino offers happy hour all day everyday, which explains why it’s always packed. Service was pretty mediocre. The indoor portion of the restaurant was completely packed, so we had to sit outside on the patio. It was about 50 degrees out and the waiters couldn’t turn on the heat lamps. It’s also pretty tough to flag down a server when they’re this busy.
The food:
We went for the Happy Hour. For K and myself, total came to $12 including tax and tip. Pizzas are $5, other appetizers range from $4-7 and drinks are $4-5.
Potatoes and Gorgonzola – Waffle cut fries topped with bits of gorgonzola and gorgonzola sauce. These were so good the first 5 minutes it was at our table. Becuase it was so cold, the fries cooled down right away.
Sausage and Mushroom Pizza – Palomino’s serves the thinnest pizza I’ve ever had. The dough is so thin, almost like a cracker. The sauce is nice and tomatoey topped with rustic mushrooms and Italian sausage. Yum! Too bad it got cold quickly because of the weather.
Palomino’s a great place to catch up with friends. The location is great, street parking is pretty easy after 6pm, and food is cheap. I’d come again when it gets warmer.
